Fabian Mercado, Jr. Worthy Student Fund
by Janet Ledesma, FLEC Principal

Mr. Fabian Mercado is the grandfather of Max & Alyssa Luna (current students). He fell asleep until Jesus’ second coming on December 26, 2010. I had the privilege of attending a celebration of his life at the memorial service. Mr. Mercado was dedicated to Christian Education and modeled it as a father, husband, friend and church leader.

In lieu of flowers, the family has established the Fabian Mercado Jr. Worthy Student Fund at FLEC. My heart is touched that Mr. Mercado’s legacy will live on in the lives of our students who are so deserving of Christian education yet cannot afford it.

If you would like to contribute to this scholarship fund you may do so by remitting funds to:

FABIAN MERCADO, JR.

OCTOBER 28, 1941 — DECEMBER 26, 2010

Fabián Mercado, Jr., was born the 28th day of October 1941 in the charming island of Mayagüez, Puerto Rico — son to Fabián Mercado, Sr., and Felicita Pesantes. Fabian lived part of his childhood in Puerto Rico until the age of nine when he moved to New York City due to the death of his mother, and at the age of eleven he moved to Los Angeles, California to live with his father.

He graduated from Roosevelt High School and attended the University of Los Angeles. In 1965, he returned to New York City where he embraced the Adventist faith and was baptized by Pastor Eugene Valencia in the Spanish Manhattan church.

He married Miss Elsa María Mendoza October 30, 1966, in the Spanish Manhattan Seventh Day Adventist church. They had two daughters, Yamile Mercedes Mercado-Luna, born in Manhattan, New York, and Maribel Ludy Mercado-Mussa, born in Los Angeles, California.

Fabián dedicated 23 years to the Imaging Department and Management Information Systems of Florida Hospital Orlando, where he developed and maintained a great relationship with his co-workers.

In 1997, due to his physical condition, he retired from his job at Florida Hospital and dedicated his time to caring for his grandchildren and their spiritual development.

He is survived by his father Mr. Fabián Mercado, Sr., his wife Elsa Mercado, two daughters Yamile Luna and Maribel Mussa, four grandchildren, Alyssa Luna, Maxi Luna, Nadia Mussa, Layla Mussa, three sisters Nilda Iris Acevedo, Sonia Esther López and Kathy Mercado-Vásquez and 19 nephews.

Fabián enjoyed a life full of joy together with his family, friends and fellow members of the Forest City Seventh Day Adventist church. As a faithful member, he enjoyed all church activities in general, but the social activities were some of his favorites.

A man with a heart of gold, who cared for the sick and gave a helping hand to anyone in need.

Loyal, joyful, friendly, loving and giving are the characteristics that best describe our dad. He was a dedicated disciple of our Lord Jesus Christ.

December 26, 2010, at the age of 69 in Florida Hospital Orlando, he left his earthly home with the blessed assurance of seeing the King of Kings and Lord of Lords Jesus Christ.

WE WILL MISS YOU HONEY!
